Travelers passing through the United States don't need to be trapped in the airport. The C-1 Visa, also known as the transit visa, enables traveling nonimmigrant’s to leave the airport and visit family or friends or partake in tourist or shopping ventures. While you are required to leave the U.S. on your departing flight, you are able to spend your waiting time enjoying your surroundings. ビザ免除プログラム(VWP)は、特定の国籍の方が米国に渡航する場合、有効なパスポート、往復または次の目的地までの航空券・乗船券を所持し、渡米目的が短期の商用や観光であれば、ビザなしで米国に90日以下の滞在が可能となるプログラムです。VWP対象国の方はビザを申請することもできます。全ての国がビザ免除プログラムに参加しているわけではありません。また、VWP参加国のすべての方がビザ免除プログラムを利用できるというわけでもありません。渡米に際して、ビザ免除渡航者は、電子渡航認証システム(ESTA)で認証され、米国入国地で確認される必要があり、米国国土安全保障省(DHS)のUS-VISITプログラムに登録される必要があります。
ビザ免除プログラムは、現在下記の国籍の方に適用されています。

カナダやメキシコから陸路で最初に米国に入国する場合も、ビザ免除プログラムを利用することができます。必要書類が上記と同じですが、往復航空券・乗船券の所持や、VWP参加航空会社または船会社を利用する条件は免除されます。但し、陸路で入国する場合は、入国審査官に渡米と帰国に要する費用をまかなうための十分な資金があることを証明する必要があります。また、入国地でI-94Wフォームの提出および国境入国料金を支払う必要があります。
ビザ免除プログラムを利用できない場合:
有罪判決の有無にかかわらず逮捕歴のある方、犯罪暦（恩赦や大赦などの法的措置がとられた場合も含む）がある方、重い伝染病を患っている方、過去に米国への入国を拒否されたり強制送還された方、そしてビザ免除プログラムで入国し、オーバーステイしたことがある方は、ビザ免除プログラムを利用することはできません。渡米するためには、ビザを取得しなければなりません。ビザを持たずに入国しようとすると入国を拒否されることがあります。
注： 逮捕や有罪に至らないような交通違反の場合は、その他のビザ免除プログラムの条件を満たしていればこのプログラムの利用が可能です。米国滞在中に交通違反を犯し、罰金未払いあるいは法廷審問に出頭しなかったような場合は、逮捕状が出されている可能性もあり、入国審査で問題になることが予測されます。
ビザ免除プログラムによる米国通過：
ビザ免除プログラムの条件を満たしている方は、ビザ無しで米国を通過することもできますが、ESTA渡航認証が必要です。米国を通過してカナダ、メキシコ、近隣諸島に旅行する場合は、通過およびカナダ、メキシコ、近隣諸島での滞在を含む全期間が90日を超えないことを条件に、交通手段を問わず帰路米国に再入国することができます。カナダ、メキシコ、近隣諸島以外の国に行くために米国を通過し、帰路米国に再度入国する場合は、ビザ免除協定会社の飛行機や船を利用しなければなりませんが、90日以内である必要はありません。新たに入国許可の申請をする必要があるからです。そのため、入国に際して新たにI-94Wの記入も必要です。米国を通過してメキシコ、カナダ、バーミューダ、カリブ諸島に居住するために米国を通過する旅行者は、それぞれの国の合法的居住者でなければなりません。
2010年9月8日より、全てのビザ免除プログラム参加国（VWP）の渡航者は、旅行促進法により定められた14ドルのESTA料金を支払わなければなりません。ESTA申請は旅行前ならいつでも可能です。通常一度承認されれば、米国へ複数回の渡航が可能で、ESTAは２年間または申請者のパスポートの有効期限、あるいはその他再申請しなければならない状況が発生するまで有効です。すでにESTA認証を受けた渡航者は必須項目以外の情報更新の際にはESTA費用を支払う必要はありません。だだし、新しいパスポートを取得したりESTAを再申請する場合には費用の支払いが必要になります。ESTA費用は渡航認証申請時にESTAのシステムを通して支払います。
The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) offers an easy, effective method to travel to the US for business or pleasure. The program enables citizens of participating countries to travel to the US for pleasure or business for 90 days or less without officially obtaining a U.S. visa.

There are presently 27 participating countries in the VWP: Andorra, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
While most interested parties do not need to apply for a visa, certain exceptions do apply. Some travelers still need to apply for a visa, including people who plan to work or study in the U.S., stay more than 90 days, or people who might otherwise be ineligible for a visa. Travelers who have previously been denied visas, who have criminal records or who may be ineligible to enter the U.S. on the VWP, should contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate before attempting to use the VWP to enter the U.S.

The Q-1 international cultural exchange program provides practical training, employment and the sharing of the history, culture, and traditions of the participant's home country in the United States. This visa enables individuals to participate in exchange visitor programs in the United States.
STEPS
You should apply for a Q-1 Visa at the US Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over your place of permanent residence. While you may apply at any U.S. consular office abroad, it is advised you apply within your jurisdiction. Participants in the Q exchange program must have the designated sponsoring organization file Form I-129, Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker, with the USCIS. The USCIS will then inform the sponsor on Form I-797 when the petition is approved.
